Gen. Wiesław Kukuła, chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, hosted Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), for talks focused on modernising Poland's military and developing key deterrence and resilience capabilities, the General Staff said in a statement.

The two generals also discussed security in the Baltic Sea region and the importance of drawing lessons from the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, it added.

These insights were described as "useful in the ongoing development of NATO forces."

Kukuła called the talks highly productive and said they would help strengthen cooperation among NATO allies, according to his spokeswoman, Col. Joanna Klejszmit.

“We agreed to remain in close contact to respond effectively to developments in our region," he said.

Grynkewich, who became NATO's top military commander in Europe on July 4, praised Poland as a leading NATO ally and a model for other member countries, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

A US Air Force general and veteran fighter pilot, Grynkewich previously served as a senior operations commander in the Middle East and held top roles at NATO and the Pentagon.

He succeeded Gen. Christopher G. Cavoli as SACEUR.

While in Warsaw on Friday, Grynkewich also met with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, and Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
